While it's a great story, it is only 176ish pages long but worse, the ebook is priced at eleven dollars!!! Way too much for any ebook of that size. (Unrelated to my opinion of the book, is my dislike of the cost of this short story. More pages of details could evolve Murderbot and all of the characters to a much deeper level and would earn it one more star. The author has done a wonderful job of transforming this character from an uncaring robot to one who doesn't want to care but can't stop having those emotions. Murderbot is a wonderful character, funny, and there are a lot of things that happen to it, or it says, that are very relatable. Maybe it was because it believed its trip to the terraforming station was part of the reason she was in danger. But why did it care, it wasn't supposed to care. Mensah was in trouble, Murderbot decided to help her. Read moreįinding out its first friend(?), Dr. Part of me actually hopes Wells turns The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon into a book series, but for now, on to season 2. It was an enjoyable read, and I'm pleased to see that the sequel is finally an actual book. This series takes very few risks and the same formula is repeated with slight variations from one novella to the next. While the action itself introduces interesting elements, the ultimate denouement is predictable. The fact that Murderbot virtually never fails to hack anything desensitizes us to the point where it all seems too easy. It was good to revisit some of the characters from novella #1 and flesh them out a bit more, but once again, we have a rogue SecUnit who can apparently tackle squads of SecUnit and even a Combat SecUnit. We finally start to understand more about how this sector of the galaxy operates, the so called 'Corporate Rim', but the details are still light, as if we're on a 'need to know basis'. Given the episodic nature of this 'book' broken down into four novellas, this fourth episode concludes the main story arc of PreservationAux and Gra圜ris introduced in All Systems Red. A satisfying, yet expected, 'season finale'.
